Abstract: |
Since modern times, raw Chinese medicines have played a significant role in economic interactions and cultural exchanges as important products in China’s foreign trade landscape. Examining the foreign trade of raw Chinese medicines is crucial for understanding the development history of Chinese medicine from a broader perspective. Taking Dahuang(Rhei Radix Et Rhizoma) as an example, this paper explores the general process and main reasons for the foreign trade of raw Chinese medicines in the Qing Dynasty through the literature review method, by consulting relevant historical materials such as Chinese Maritime Customs Historical Materials housed in Shanghai library. Dahuang(Rhei Radix Et Rhizoma) held an important position in the foreign trade system of raw Chinese medicines in the Qing Dynasty, mainly benefiting from the huge international market demand, the efficacy of Dahuang(Rhei Radix Et Rhizoma), the increasingly mature trade system, and the promotion by missionaries. Through research, this paper aims to gain a deeper understanding of the role and value of raw Chinese medicines in cross-cultural exchanges. It also provides reference and guidance for the current and future foreign trade of raw Chinese medicines, the inheritance and development of Chinese medicine culture, and the conservation of authentic medicinal resources. |
