Abstract: |
Cardiovascular diseases combined with mental and psychological disorders are referred to as "psycho-cardiological diseases". From the perspective of Chinese medicine, psycho-cardiological diseases are considered as co-morbidities of the body (form) and mind (spirit). Cardiovascular pathological changes can affect the function of the heart spirit, and at the same time, damage to the heart spirit can also affect the occurrence and development of heart diseases. The two are physiologically interdependent and pathologically mutually damaging. Professor ZHOU Yabin, based on the fundamental pathogenesis of psycho-cardiological diseases—damage to the heart spirit and malnutrition of the heart spirit, and proceeding from the holistic concept of Chinese medicine, proposes that the main goal should be the comprehensive regulation of both the body and mind. Moreover, he establishes the basic principle of "simultaneous regulation of the body and mind" for treating these diseases. The treatment of the body focuses on reinforcing the healthy qi and supplementing deficiency, transforming stasis and phlegm, while the regulation of the mind emphasizes nourishing the heart and calming the mind as well as soothing the liver and relieving depression. This is complemented by psychological counseling and external therapies with unique features of Chinese medicine, achieving a balanced and harmonious regulation of both the body and mind, thereby attaining optimal efficacy in the treatment of psycho-cardiological diseases. |
